Artist Statement
My first love is my abstract expressive work. The more realistic sculptures form the well of information from which I draw inspiration when expressing my emotions in form. With bronze, I have found the medium through which I can really begin to express the images in my mind. Initially I would set out with preconceived ideas or themes. I follow my creative instinct until I reach an indefinable moment when the central theme of what I am doing gradually begins to emerge and manifest itself. Having discovered my talent for three-dimensional form as well as my ability to capture the movement and vitality of subjects, I decided to develop my interesst further by teaching myself to mold my own pieces. From early experiments, my love for sculpting grew. My work is distinctive, the art of form simplification in my work, reducing my subject matter to essentials while retaining its intrinsic character. These are vibrant statements that have a life of their own. In my figurative work, I am interested in exploring the inner flow of energy of the human form. Inner intentions and states of mind are described within the body language of my figurative works.
